Developmental editing takes a document from creation to completion. We work with clients to develop a manuscript from original concept, outline, or draft through any number of subsequent drafts.
Substantive editing improves an already existing manuscript by identifying and solving problems of overall clarity or accuracy as well as reorganizing paragraphs, sections, or chapters.
For both levels of editing, we write or rewrite segments of the text to improve readability and flow of information, and we revise any or all aspects of the text to improve its presentation. We regularly consult with clients about issues of concern and incorporate responses to queries and suggestions into the text that can lead to the creation of a new draft of the document.
